Looking to convert 2wd dually to 4wd

I have a 1999 DRW 6 spd that I am looking to convert to 4wd. I know it can be done but what I am asking for is suggestions others found when doing theirs or PROBLEMS they encountered while doing their conversion. I figure it will be a week long project but I will be retired in January and have a lot of time on my hands then.

Parts I know I will need;
new tailshaft/ output shaft
transfercase
driveshafts front and rear
shifters
floor plate
wire harness from donor truck
front axle
lots of dirt and mud to test drive on.

I am assuming the frame has the bolt up predrilled and most everything else is set up for either 2wd or 4wd. I occasionally see the dash light for low range light up anyways so it should be good???

Naysayers stay off please. I want to hear from those that have done it already. I figure if I can fab a diesel into a Samurai I can convert a 2wd into 4wd just fine.

Thanks ahead and if anyone needs extra hunters let me know for 2012. My truck and I will be ready.

WOW No one?? I would think this has been done several times. Plenty of time till I start.

My friend has a shop and can do the trans rebuild with the 4X4 conversion for an extra $300. The transfer case he has is already rebuilt. After that I guess it is blocks for the rear with brakeline extenders and an axle from the yard prob Dana 70 straight from another SD truck. Still not sure on floor boards. I will find out when I pull the axle out of the yard truck.

In order to change the output shaft you will have to do a total tranny dissisembly. should do a tranny rebuild at the same time if thats what you are going to do. Good Luck

I forgot to let you know that not all the holes are pre-drilled and the pockets in the front shackles need the bottom web of the frame cut out and indented. Its not hard, just wanted to inform you. I did it very successfully and would do it again.
