How much boost are you making? If you make over 25 pounds then you will set a soft code, meaning if you keep driving easy the check engine light should turn off. Like you described. Could be setting and ICP out of range.

If you are making over 25 pounds of boost you will need something like this. http://www.itpdiesel.com/store.php?c...on=show_detail

Well in my opion your computer is reading something that shouldnt be there(the chip), so your computer thinks that someething is wrong with it and thats why your check engine light comes on.

Its probably reading a Lower then Desired ICP when the chip is in the higher position, In other words its probably running low on High Pressure oil.

It's either this ^Above^, the overboost or both.
It's not becase the computer "doesn't think the chip should be there". If the MAP sensor sees anything above ~22psi boost, it triggers the SES light AND defuels the engine, causing a noticeable loss in power. Also, if the chip asks the stock HPOP for more oil than it can supply to run the injectors and maintain the ICP it requires, it will throw a code and the light, as stated above. If you really want to know which one, pull the codes. You definitely need the Overboost Eliminator, if it still does it with a properly adjusted overboost eliminator, it's most likely a weak HPOP.
FYI, you can make the overboost with a hanful of stuff from Home Depot.

An upgraded HPOP will set you back anywhere from $1300-$2500, there not cheap! You really should pull the codes rather then just chase it around. You can make an overboost valve but there so cheap from the vendors why bother (IMO!) but to each there own... I run a overboost from dieselsite.com, but lots of vendors have them. Theres is an electronic one out but I cant remember who sells it.

Tell me your not running that without the EGT gauge!! It'll get hot quickly...
