Help with problem

I have a buddy with a 01' 7.3. We got to talking last night and he said that his truck is starting to cut out so to speak. Occasionally when slowing down for a light it will stutter and almost die. Kind of like it shut off for a second. It has happened on the freeway as well just driving along. Does this sound like a cam position sensor or am I way off base. Any help would be appreciated.

Thats where I would start. Mine was doing the same & a new CPS cured it I think. Changed it out abt 3 wks ago. No problems yet & an easy task.

Ya I'd bet it is a CPS. You can get them from International for about half the cost from Ford. They are really easy to replace too. Just need a 10mm end wrench for the one bolt.

Guys thanks for the help.
Do you suppose that it would be the same for a 97' model year?

Although the part numbers are differant, the cps will or should work between all years. I'm running a cps for '99 and up in the '95 and a cps from '94-97 in '00.
It just worked out that way

I would change the cps before taking the truck to the shop as you will save a boat load of cash. If you need help with it just holla and I will gladly walk you through it

Diesel Dog I appreciate the assistance.
My other question was probably not clear. Is the CPS on the 97' prone to failure as well? Turns out another friend heard us talking and his is doing the same thing but worse. His truck actually dies.

Yes. Not same as in the same part, but same as in " going or gone bad".
I think when it comes to a CPS early or late........its "a luck of the draw" on whether they go out. Some do/some don't.

Clear as mud???
