PCM Swap

Has anyone done this and not had an issue? I just swapped a XPC4 for a APX1. I now get a code for high coolant temp that won't clear. Looking for a near free 40 horsepower.

What if I chip it? Am I going to hurt the truck? Can I get it reprogrammed permanently?

I was going to keep my stock computer stock and use this one to do whatever with and not worry if I ever had to deal with warranty stuff in the 35k left on the engine.

Put your stock pcm back in...then ship your extra pcm to Jody and Diane at DP Tuner..they are a supporting vendor. Jody can reprogram your pcm to your wishes...as long as its within the same family of cpu's...if I remember correctly.

Some trucks are finicky with swapping pcm's. My truck is an XLE8 truck, and I swapped in a PMT1 pcm. The shift strategy was awesome...but when hooked up to our camper I kept setting the SES light for an overboost. My gauges tell me otherwise. I put an XLE8 pcm back in and my troubles have gone away.

So can they reflash my "spare" to be an XPC4 with the higher power of the 01' MT trucks? Or just reflash as a stock XPC4 plus a 3-4 position chip. Amazing how little there is in that box. Anyone tried a Tweecer on their PSD?

kblackav8or,

I would put the XPC4 back in and not use the APX1. They are not from the same DCP-??? family of codes. The APX1 PCM can not be flashed to make it a XPC4. If you are looking for a PCM to chip we have a DPC-421 or XPC4 in stock. That way you can keep your old PCM stock.
