Shell Rotella web site

I was reading some testimonials on the Shella Rotella web site. A 7.3 owner stated he changed his oil 2300 miles /2weeks ago with Rotella and the oil is still clean. He says the MC oil would be dirty by now. Is that because the MC has more detergents and is doing a better job?

Thanks:shrug:

I have used rotella for years in the 7.3 and never had a oil related problem. the 6.0 on the other hand is a differant story? . I am not a big fan of synthetics in the 7.3, because its hard to tell when the antifome addatives are depleated. i am sure a oil exspert will speak up.

Thanks for the feedback. So far I've been using the MC15w40 in my 2002 F350 7.3 with the Power Stroke oil filter. My truck is just a daily driver no heavy pulling/hauling. I've been changing the oil and oil filter every 5000 miles/6 months. How can you tell if the anti-foam additives are depleted?

Thanks

sounds like your doing the right thing. i was told buy a member on this site, that at a test lab the antifoam would show up as silaca in the sample. so knowing how much was depleated is hard. I do know this , if the antifoam addative is depleated your engine will run rough and idel bad. i put a tee and valve in the oil pressure hole. start the motor and take a sample into a clear jar, if the oil is aerated you will see it. i have fixed many poor idleling trucks by changing the oil .

i have run rotella dino and MC filters from day one with 7500 mile drain intervals... with 140K on the truck it still runs like a champ

that being said i have no clue how a oil could keep itself from getting dirty like the rotella site claims, it seems to me that would be more of a function of rings, seals, and filters.... being dirty and having the correct additive longivity is two different things, the oil no matter what brand is going to suspend whatever soot gets in it and its the filter's job to get it out... i think that claim about being cleaner after however many miles is just salesman puffery
