Got my new turbo...

Got a few questions,

1. I thought the compresser side was not ported, this one is?
2. No where does it say GTP-38r, could this be a ATS bb?
3. The guy bought it from LIPD (pm sent) and said he had less then 500 miles on it. From what I can see I beleve him. What do you think>
4. 1.00 ar on both the compresser side and the drive side... Normal?
5. I'm not going to install it for about three weeks, so I've got some time to "tweak" it so to speak. Anyone ever polished the compresser side? Just to purty it up?

I'm not going to C coat it or anything, but anything else I should look for?

1. You can't see in the pictures, but look at the shroud around the compresser wheel....you should see a machined "slit" circling all around the compresser wheel to allow air to bleed back to the Inducer (wheel inlet).

2. It is a Garrett GTP-38R...so u didn't get ripped.

3. Looks like low miles.

4. yes, 1.0 on each side is normal.

5. rough cast disipitates heat better than a polished surface...disipitating heat on the compresser side is a good thing.

it's normal on any shrouded wheel. the port is known as a "inducer bleed ring", and if a turbo is built without an Inducer bleed, then there is no need for the shroud and would have an inlet similar to the stock turbo.

BTW...www.dieselsite.com offers porting of the existing Inducer bleed to prevent the surge that is known to occur on the BB turbos when really pushed.
