Very Poor Fuel Mileage

WELL I JUST PURCHASED A 1997 F-350 CREW CAB POWERSTROKE, AND MY FUEL MILEAGE SEEMS TO SUCK. THE TRUCK IS BONE STOCK RUNS EXCELLANT NO BLACK SMOKE NEVER MISSES A BEAT BUT FOR SOME REASON I CAN ONLY SEEM TO MUSTER UP 300 MILES OF FREEWAY TRAVEL, BETWEEN THE TWO COMBINED FUEL TANKS OF 37 GALLONS KNOW MY MATH TELLS ME THAT IS ABOUT 8.1 GALLONS PER MILE CAN THIS BE SO. THE TRUCK HAS NO FUEL LEAKS AND RUNS PERFECT. I JUST GOT BACK FROM MY LUNCH BREAK, AND DROVE MY TRUCK INTO TOWN FOR A BITE. TOWN IS 6 MILES EACH WAY. WHEN I LEFT THE SHOP I HAD JUST BELOW A HALF TANK, WHEN I RETURNED FROM TOWN (12 MILE ROUND TRIP) I HAD JUST OVER QUARTER TANK. IS MY FUEL QAUGE RETARDED, BOTH TANKS YIELD THE SAME RESULTS SO I CAN NOT IMAGINE I HAVE TWO BAD SENDING UNITS. ANY THOUGHTS ANY ONE EVER HAD SIMILIAR PROBLEMS. THANKS IN ADVANCE:thanks:

Check the fuel filter, and make sure the little screen to the regulator is clear.

Check your fuel pressure at idle, should be around 60 or so. There is a schrader vavle on the fuel bowl at the regulator, just use a regular tire guage for now.

Hey Thanks When You Say Check The Fuel Filter, Do Mean Just Check To See How Dirty It Is. Is The Fuel Bowl Where The Fuel Filter Sits In? Sorry I Have Been A Cummins Man The Last Three Years Don't Know Much About These Systems Yet.

Yes, under the cute little cover on the top of the motor, you can lift it up and the fuel bowl is right there.
