Where you live makes the biggest differance in what system you get. If you live where they salt the roads get SS if not go with a Aluminized system. There is not much preformance differance between a system to another, so if your on a budget go for the cheapest you can afford.

Some of the more cheap systems don't have any hangers welded on to the exhaust. I suggest going w/ a name brand like MBRP and Magna flow just because the install is so much easier. Let me know if I can help.

I hate to hijack the thread but my question is somewhat similar to tripldigit30's.

My truck has a terrible "droan" at about 1800 to 2100 rpm. Otherwise the exhaust is virtually silent in the truck with the windows up.

I have a 3" down pipe with 4" exhaust from Jones Exhaust Systems. It has what they call a Full Boar Muffler. The muffler consists of a 4" straight through pipe with a bunch of rounded louvers punched in it. The case is 8" diamater and I am pretty sure there is no packing or anything. I had it installed with the louvers facing back (so the exhaust would flow over them)

I was going to turn the muffler around to see if that would help my noise and during the process I got the bright idea to go drive around with no muffler or tail pipe.
Well I was amazed that the noize level was not that bad but even more so of my EGT's. I dropped 200* on a full throttle run in any chip position. I can now run in my Extreme setting without getting over 1300* up to about 90 mph.

What do you reccomend that will quiet the noize down a little but not make more EGT than a straight pipe. At this point I am thinking about just straight piping it for a while and see if I can tollerate it. 200* is big to me!!

PS cost isn't too much of a concern if it will keep my egt down and run quieter than a straight pipe.

I've had mine straight piped for a long time and it doesn't bother me with the windows up or down. The only thing is when the ebpv closes its like an f16 is taking off in the driveway. The egts drop is worth it IMHO

I mentioned this in another thread, but the Aeroturbine is a great muffler to drop the noise a bit (very little) and drop EGT's about 100 below even a straight pipe... 4040 is just a standard and the 4040L has a resonator (glasspack)

So is the "very little" worth the cost?

I was getting ready to ask if the advertisments meant lower egt than a stock muffler or straight pipe, but you got it already!

I have seen some mention of 2 4040's in line making even more egt drop. Is this true? And will it take the noise down more than just 1?

Or should I be going for the 4040xl with the resonator for less noise? Also does the XL provide the same egt's?

EDIT: Oh yeah, sorry about the double threads. I posted in this one first and then got to thinking that maybe some of the vendors that dont read this foum could have insight.

I have been told the same thing about the dual 4040's and I might do it in the next few weeks. I can get them cheaper then retail... But at $200 a piece, I would just do a 4040L and it should be good! They also make a 5" one, called (duh...) the 5050...

Joe,
Correct me here but adding restriction (mufflers) to an exhaust lowers egts?
I thought the whole point of removing mufflers and cats was to eliminate restriction in order to move more air therefore holding lower egts?
