questions on 99 SD

hi guys,

my buddy just bought a 99 F350 dually, 7.3, auto

got a couple quick questions....

1st....it doenst have a convertor, and the pipe thats under there looks factory. It originally came from the mid west.... did they not have cats?

2nd...it idles much higher than mine....850ish compared to my 500 (wich one is normal?)

3rd...this might be related to his higher idle not sure.. when slowing down to a stop or even on the highway, it feels like it never drops out of gear(in other words it still pulls with the brake applied) i was listen and working the pedal and it seems as thought it never "clicks" into idle. as soon at the pedal is touched its moving. where mine will drop to idle just before the pedal "clicks" off, and will "click" on but has to pushed more to come off idle(hope that makes sense)....thought maybe he may have a problem with the pedal assy

thanks guys :thanks:

Some trucks came from the factory with no cats, I don't know for sure how they chose which ones did or didn't. 850 idle is a little high and 500 idle is a little low. Might try checking the idle validation switch on the '99 as it sounds like it isn't functioning properly. I think idle should be about 650 on a stock truck.

My '00 had no cat either. Good advice above.

If it still pulls with the brakes on it maybe the TC is not unlocking. Does it have a manual lock up switch on it?

'00 cc f 350 a few mods, and a bts tranny.

i thought about it being the convertor staying locked but it does it around town so the convertor isnt even in lock up yet..and say for some reason it was, would the engine stall below say 25mph or at least at idle?

Yes, if the TC was staying locked it would stall the engine.
