6.0L intercooler swap

All,

has anyone done this swap and used Bob Rileys intercooler boots with this?? I bought these last year and installed them, now i am about to swap out intercoolers and i am hoping i dont have to buy two new boots at the intercooler. Anyway, any info would be great. Also, for those of you with the 6.0L intercooler, any noticeable difference in performance???? Thanks

Ken

I saw a small drop in EGT's empty, but about 75-100 when pulling. I used a Napa boot for the drivers side, 3" to 3" and then cut and extended the pass side IC tube and used the stock boot... See the write up in the mod section.

Was this a worthwhile upgrade for you??? I am getting my intercooler for $150, so i think whatever drops in EGTs and whatever else would be worthwhile for me. Im not looking for outrageous amounts of power, just enuf to toy around with.

Why did u have to cut and extend the passenger side IC tube?? because u used the stock boot?? I have aftermarket boots, so im hoping i dont have to change them, cost me some money for those

Yes, it was worth it. I had to lower my PS cooler and tranny cooler, just made a bracket to lower it about 2".

I used Bob's boots on the low side and they worked fine. I did upgrade to the banks tubes but the stockers worked fine with Bob's tube. i had to extend my Drivers side boot with a 3'X3"X8" boot supplied with my IC but when i wnet to the banks tubes the Dieselsite boot worked fine.

You will only be able to use ONE of Bob's boots. Bob's boots are tapered and only will fit the passenger side of the 6.0 CAC. The drivers side is the exact same dimension as the tube so you need a long straight boot for that side. I recommend you buy some 3" Inside Diameter High Temp Silicone Hose and cut it yourself and have a little extra left over to cut some slightly longer boots to replace the small boots up where the tubes connect to the X-pipe.

Oh, and since you will only be needing one boot, how about selling your left over one to me? Or, I can go to CR&G here in town and buy you the High temp Silicone hose you need and we can trade.

Cool, thanks for the reply Hammer. I will look into it, right now i am deployed and wont be back til beginning of February.

Anyway, i am considering the V-10 tranny cooler, did it help alot in cooling your tranny???? What kind temperature drop did u see with that upgrade??? Thanks

I'm in no hurry, My stuff is up and running. it just would be nice to have a "Bob boot" to replace the OEM tapered boot that I am still using on the passenger side.

I really didn't have any temp issues with my tranny before the V10 cooler. The highest temperature I ever saw with he stock cooler was about 190F on a 105F degree day in slow moving traffic. It does run even cooler now though, but not that it needed to. The only reason I swapped was because my truck is a Post February 2001 build and when installing the 6.0 CAC...we ran into the snag where the newer style coolers won't let a tall CAC drop in. So I went to the local Ford dealer and had a choice of either an OEM or V10 cooler designed for Pre-Feb 2001 trucks and figured since I had to change it out, might as well get the bigger V10 unit.

I tend to go against the grain around here when it comes to tranny cooling. I say don't waste the time changing unless you have a reason to.
