1998 Ford E350 7.3 liter diesel

I posted awhile ago asking about problem with husbands truck. Had the same problem yesterday and then couldn't get truck started after several attempts. It has been occassionaly running rough - after dumping the bowl it seems to be fine for a few days. Yesterday the same thing happened about 10 miles from our home. After dumping the bowl several times, he couldn't get it started again and had to have it towed. The mechanic hasn't had a chance to look at it yet but he suggested a problem with the cam sensor or maybe the wiring harness. Any ideas or suggestions on what you guys think it might be? And what might be the cost of replacing either of those? Thanks again for your assistance.
