My turbo likes to sing, but I'm tired of it's voice.

Hey folks,

Probably gonna get blasted for this one, but here goes: My daily driver (99, 7.3L) has the loudest turbo whine of ANY diesel i've owned. It's mostly under low to moderate acceleration.

Is there any product or blanket or something that can quiet the turbo down? Here in ATL. i'm in traffic constantly or moderate stop light to stop light driving. Any help would be appreciated.

PS: I'm bracing myself for the "If it's too loud, you're too old" comments and the like - so fire away.

Thanks!

What? You don't like the "whine of your early ninety-nine".

Seriously though. You have to change out the wheel or get a different turbo.

I'll let the guys post up as to which they preffered.

Post up what mods you have done. If you have an open element intake, you can put the stock box back in and lose alot of the noise.

Hypertech stage 1 setting (out of a possible 3). In other words, not much. Rest of truck is bone stock.

It was this loud before i did anything. Always been this way.

Thanks!!

Diane,

Do you mean change out the wheel inside the turbo housing (the turbine, i guess)?

And could you recommend a quieter turbo than stock?

I appreciate you taking the time to help.

Yes, the wheel on the intake side of the turbo. The one you have now is the same as the Wicked wheel so many change to to get the wine. You can change just the wheel to a 'oo and up and it will be a lot quieter.

The qssb turbo I have is a lot quieter than the old stock one with the ww in it, but if you are stock injectors you probly won't be able to light it. Some others with after market turbos will probly chime in.

'00 cc f 350 a few mods, and a bts tranny.

I would try wraping the CAC tubes with some foam or something before you change anyting with the turbo.
