highest EGT? 1700

I pulled out on the highway from work the other day. I let the truck warm up for a minute or two so that silly little exhaust valve would open. I pull out and I have no power. I'm trying to get up to at least 40mpg and I glance up and see my pyro guage at 17. I let up and it finally opens about 5 minutes later, but just curious what's the highest you guys have seen. I live in the mountains and smaller hills is 10 to 12 and if I'm going up a long steep hill I see 15. I haven't seen the numbers while towing.

Also, can I just unplug the exhaust valve? Any negative consequences?

Well, I've buried by pyro gauge at 1500 and held it there for a while.
That's no the best thing to do though.

You have only stock injectors and a superchips? That sounds rediculously high for those mods.
What's your max boost?

Those egt's seem quite high for your mods. Is you superchips still in? I had a 1705 superchips on my truck and couldn't get it over 1150 deg. unless i hooked a trailer on and that was in the performance setting.

If you truely hit 1700* it surely would have melted a piston. You may want to check the pyro and see if it is accurate. I cant give you a good way to check it though other than comparing it to the reading of anoter one.

Check all your conections from the turbo to the engine. You may have a terrible boost leak. If it was that bad I would think you would notice a loss in power though.

EDIT: Loco beat me to it, only by seconds though.

The exhaust valve was closed, so that's why.

I think my turbo is good because I've seen it up to 15psi before. Normally it runs 2 to 5.

My sig shows all my mods. Other than that it's a wore out old truck.

You might check to see if the EBPV is not going all the way open. You should not be seeing 1500* with your setup if everything is working right.
Also with my 96 when I had exhaust, intake, and the Superchips tunner I was getting 25 psi boost. I think you may have a turbo related problem, either a restriction/leak in the exhaust or a leak in the pressure side.

So if I unplug it does that open it up?

Yep. It will not be able to get a signal from the pcm telling it to close. It can still be hanging partially closed though from soot buildup or rust. Reach you hand underneath the housing and move the lever back and forth a few times by hand and see if you feel anything catching.

wiring harness by the turbo...unplug it
thats how to make it stop

Someone will chime in here with some pictures of the valve

It closes and holds the backpressure in the engine and warms up the engine faster
