Door Hinges

My door hinges are worn out on the driver's side. Checked with the dealer and they want $200 to change out the pins or $400 to put in new hinges on that one door. So ... I need to get out my own tools get working.

Anyone have suggestions whether I should just buy new pins and bushings and replace them? I this a hard job to tackle? Or is the complete hinge changeout a big deal?

And any suggestions where to buy these parts besides the stealership?

What year truck? One hinge on my 95 is worn out. I bought a replacement pin from the local chain parts store. Go the the "Help" section. It's in there & cost less than $20. I haven't done it yet, but it's a two person job from what Ive read. One person pretty much only has to hold the door while the pin is out. Once the old pin is removed, it's just a matter of tapping in the new one.

Sorry I don't have any specifics on how to do the job. Hopefully I'll get around to this one soon.

Thanks BigGreen.

Mine is a '97, so it should be just like yours. I didn't think I would find this type of part at the local store. I'll check them out and see what I find.

I have the same problem on both front doors. I went to a body shop and they told me that the hinges in my '94 do not have repaceable hinges, I have to replace the entire hinge. Maybe it depends on the year model.

I think from about 1980something to 1997 (basicly all OBS trucks) are the same. Sounds like the body shop needs to stick to punching out dents and painting them.

Adjust the door? I thought it would line back up with the new hinge pin. It doesn't?
