white smoke on cold start ?

when i start my truck after a day at work its had white smoke coming out the exhaust its been 10-20 deg outside. I just want to know what is going on here?? my truck only has 65,000 miles. and it doesnt do it if i had it pluged in at my house. :shrug:

sounds like the oil is to thick i have been told rotella 15w40 isnt good oil for cold starts with out it being pluged in

well i run motorcraft 15w40 but its the same weight. so is it bad on the engine or what?

the weight is ok but its the name brand i was told not to use i use Amsoil 15W40 or the 10W40 diesel

then what is making it smoke when its cold? Are you telling me the brand of oil makes it smoke ???

no its not totaly the brand these 7.3s use oil pressure to fire the injectors and the cold oil is what makes them do it thats why i use a synthetic oil it dojnt get thick when cold like reguler oils do

That makes more sense that the synthetic oil will help out Just that one key word makes a world of difference Thanks for helping me out!!

Not sure if I agree with that.
Too thick of oil can cause it not to run (if it can't build enough pressure to fire the injectors). But I don't think it has anything to do with white smoke.
White smoke is unburnt fuel. When you first start your engine on a cold morning it will not be able to burn completely, causing the white smoke. when it warms up a bit it goes away. Most diesels do this, its not a problem.

The oil has NOTHING to do with it.

You need to ohm your glow plugs out and make sure the glow plug relay is working.
