When your running out of overdrive, your rpms jump up, thus using more fuel. If your towing then kepping it out of overdrive helps since your engine is running at higher rpms. running it in overdrive lowers your rpms and thus gives you better milege. other than that, i dunno?

Others will surly chime in.

The only time you really need to lock out O/D is when you are towing, and the tranny is shifting in and out of O/D constantly. Lock it out at that time to save wear and tear. Other than that, it's not necessary.

Because overdrive kills a 9,000 Lb. truck at 35 miles per hour, or at least kills the tranny.

It wont hurt a thing to leave it in OD all the time. The only time it is helping anything is when it is hunting for a gear, shifting into and out of OD. I never lock mine out unless I am wanting some added exhaust braking or it is hunting when pulling. Your only wasting fuel to lock it out.
