AFE stage II

I recently installed my AFE stage II and that thing is the sweet, It diffinitely is a air hog, It's almost like it is singing a song. I do have one question, it seems like if I get on it hard and let off I can here something, it sounds like maybe the turbo is fluttering, I really do not know how to explain it. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? :thanks:

You are hearing turbo surge. You'll also hear it while shifting in a hard run with your six speed.

I was not sure what it was, still learning. Will it hurt anything?

From what I've been told, it shouldn't hurt anything unless the turbo is surging under load. All of the manual trucks do this with the AFE. I've been running mine for several months and so far no turbo trouble yet. Not enough time to really know for sure but I plan on getting a bigger turbo so I'm not too concerned with hurting the stock turbo.

Over time it (surge) will eat up the turbo. But I think what you are hearing is stall not surge, at shift points there is a extream change of pressure from boost to no boost, so some leaks back out the intake... Making your noise.

How can I tell the difference between surge and stall? I here it when I get into it, and let off and shifting like you said.

Surge will happen when under load, about 1500-1800rpm's for most trucks... It will be a constant noise until you let off or shift up. Stall will happen when you let off real quick or when the truck shifts (in a auto)

:thanks: I took a trip to MD this today to see family. I noticed that it diffinitly stalls when shifting in the higher RPM range. The other thing i noticed is their is some other noises coming from the turbo, which I think may be the surging, it will sometimes make that fluttering noise when I give it throttle, usually happens around 15psi of boost in the 100hp setting. Pretty much exactly what you said. My question is what is the cheapest way to cure this? Do i need a new turbo or can I go with a WW  If I go with a new turbo what else do I need to do? Will this damage anything until I upgrade? :thanks: :thanks: in advance
