That should be a late 99. Nothing really any different maintenance-wise than your 97.

cut off date between early and late is, march 1999, the badging changed also so if you are not sure of a build date if the Powerstroke badge is behind the head light it is ealry, if it is on the door it is a late, assuming the previous owner did not change anything. you can also look at the turbo they changed bewteen ealy and late.

i will argue this be cause mine was born in march and i have gotten wrong parts, any time i order some thing they ask if it was made after march, so if it was dec, why would they ask this. even in 2003 they did not release the 6.0 till march, ford does this for some odd reason mid year changes happen in march. and most recently the 6.4 it was released in march.

badging dont mean much but there was a change to it, you would have to look at the other stuff to be sure, there were more than engine chages in 99 they chaged suspension components along with a few other items

the later version has better collector pipes(more commonly called up pipes) bends and different collecter that the tubo mounts to and the turbo pedistal and turbo are differnet, easier to remove on the later version but performance could easily be debated the after market does not have much for early 99 models, also on the later version the intake plenums were changed and also the inter cooler plumbing. all and all i would rather have the later version.
