7.3 question

jus wonder what the average hp and torque ratings of a 7.3 powerstroke was and why Ford went from that to a 6.0 ive always been around cummins and i was just curious

went to the 6.0 cuz of emmisions and that how navistar designed it. correct me if im wrong

Don't know how accurate these are but I found them a few places on the web as stock 2002 7.3 numbers.

275 @ 2800 (manual)
250 @ 2600 (automatic)

Torque (lb.-ft.) @ rpm
520 @ 1600 (manual)
505 @ 1600 (automatic)

VC sticker on the 97 says 225HP @3000 RPM. Torque is around 425Ft/lbs

97, F-350, 7.3 PSD, OBS, 4X4, Reg. Cab, SRW, 4.10 gears w/ Locking rear, 235-85/R16s, Shimmed FPR, Zoo Dad, DIY intake, Turbo friendly Cat., Transgo Tugger Kit(RacerX).

Next(3"-3.5"-4" downpipe & 4" Exhaust)

valve cover on 96 says 215hp and 400ft/lbs


'96 f350 cc dually, 5 speed w/ short throw shifter, stage 1 injectors, '03 sd intercooler, d66 turbo, DP Tuner F5 chip (stock, high idle, tow, econo, extreme) modified IDM, CCV mod, gutted EBPV

343 hp
670 tq

The '94-'97s usuall make about 170ish at the wheels and the SDs make right at 200 at the wheels. They went to the 6.0L because it was the next step in design. It's rated at more power and is supposed to have less emissions as well. Now they went to a 6.4 twin turbo.

'96 F-250 Extended Cab, GT'S injectors, GT'S intercooler install kit, custom turbo kit with a little HX40, Swamp's BIGEST oil.

Those numbers you see on the valve cover are flywheel HP...not rearwheel. Flywheel numbers will always be bigger since it won't take into account driveline parasitic loss of HP getting to the rears.

The biggest reason for going to the 6L was meeting emission requirements.
