7.3l Mpg

I am new here, But I have driven many fords, I am looking at getting a 2003 7.3L auto with 78k on it. I know many guys say they get upward of 24-26mpg but I am wondering what real people get with theirs? what should I expect and what can I do to get better mileage out of it?

Max of 18-20 on highway w/o too many mod's. You can get, maybe, 24 if you have a 6-speed 2WD and do alot of aero. work. 13-15 around town is typical.

Misc. Mods: ZooDad/By-Pass Oil Filter/203* T-Stat/Coolant Filter/HPX/CCV Reroute/Tranny Filter/Foil Delete/Stereo Stuff/ITP Reg Return/Non-EBPV Pedistal and Exhaust Housing/Adjustable Waste Gate Controller/

I'LL TRY TO KEEP UP, BUT THE EXCURSION IS A BIG GIRL AND BIG GIRLS DON'T LIKE TO MOVE FAST.

24-26 can be done, but it takes a lot of work and a lot of discipline. It is my no means the norm. I average 15 mixed driving...

I have a 2001 crewcab flatbed with a 6 speed manual. I get 12-14 most of the time. Most trailers dcn't make a difference. My trips are mostly 20-40 milee each way and 60 mph max.

I get any where from 15-18 mpg on each tank. I have seen people who get into the mid 20s by using an economy tune with mods like new air intake exhaust and other mods like propane or water methanol injection. Also if you keep your rpms below 2000 at all times you can get from 18-20 mpg and you are not wearing out the engine as fastly. You can also reduce excess weight and put on a bed cover.

I average between 16-17 mpg per tank but I usually have my foot in it more than I should.

When I was running Jody's (DP Tuner) 80 hp econo tune, unloaded on the highway keeping it below 2000 rpm I could get 24 mpg. The norm though was usually between 21 - 22 mpg. I could also get 18.5-19 aound town driving. I do not get those numbers with the 60 hp tow or the 120 hp fun programs though. I truly think Jody's 80 hp econo tune is the best tune I have run, it was fast, but economical, and while not a towing program it seemed to work better for my loads than the 60 hp tow program has done for me. I also got a best of 17.7 pulling my 5th wheel on the highway with that tune, but I can get 15.5 -16 with the 120hp tune pulling the same 5th wheel. When I get my injectors and big oil, and I 'll have a need for changing my F5 chip programs then I'll get the 80 hp econo tune back. Gene :mafia
