Can a power stroke from a 99 be put into a 97? I guess my question is
about the wireing harness and such. Is there a lot of difference. the 99 is
a 1 ton 2wd dually and the 97 is 1 ton FWD. The 97 power stroke is
getting weak and we have a chance to buy a wrecked 99 with only
115k miles. thanks
We just did it.... Use the wiring harness from the 97 the valvecover gaskets and hanress and swap a few sensors... We even used the front accessories as is on the 99 but they are nothing to swap.. ALot of the sensors from the 97 and 99 anre different plug types but they are all in the same place. There will be some differences however in turbo piping. To stay non intercooled, you would have to use the 97 turbo etc, unless you make a custom y pipe to go into the intakes....
I used the 97 sensors and the 97 engine harness, dont forget also that the 97 has a vacuum pump for the brakes etc. that is belt driven. Some of the '97 sensors are single wire as in EOT and coolant temp where they are multi wire on the 99. Splicing these would be difficult just swap them. Swap all the front drive stuff also... Fueling is also different, 97 fuel pump is mechanically actuated off the cam in the 97 and electric on the frame rail on the 99. Lots of swappin to do
Ours is extremely modified so lots of these issues didn't present themselves
