Loud engine noises

Ok Engine and Tranny gurus,

I filled the tank up this afternoon with diesel not gas went into the store and came back out and started the truck up. I noticed that there was this noise coming from the engine area it seemed want very loud so i proceeded on. I was driving hwy speeds 70ish and everything seemed ok all the gauges looked normal. I stop at another store and the noise had gotten a little louder. It was still shifting into gear fine and the engine wasnt laboring or anything so i drove home. By the time i got home the nosie was sever iam not sure as to where its coming from if i rev the engine the nosie goes away and all seems good. But when i let off the throttle it comes down to idle and rattles like hell, but the engine seems to idle ok. When i put it into gear it gets worse, but the tranny is going into gear  . It kinda sound like when you leave a connetor off the valve cover gasket and it sound like s**t. The SES is not coming on either. Could it be the convertor??

Sorry its so long
Thanks in advance

Common thing to happen if its an automatic the flexplate cracks around the mounting bolts behind the metal ring and it fattles like **** untill you put it in gear or rev it up. Iv changed 5 and mine was cracked when i pulled my motor a few weeks ago.

Would you be able to see it if its cracked out around the center. I looked at mine and rotated the engine and i didnt see any cracks from the bolts that hold the converter on or on the face of the plate. It did seem to wobble a little bit, dont know if thats normal

You won't be able to see the cracks when it is together. I would also think that it should not wobble at all.

I think maybe its the flex plate i can shift the plate and the motor doesnt move all the time then it will catch and spin the motor.

I have seen a torque converter do that as well. I see you have a 99 and I think there was a service bulletin about that on the early superdutys. you might check you local ford dealer about it.
