Tranny gone?? need help asap

my dad has a 2002 f250 4x4 diesel of course:Thumbup: and he was pulling the boat today and on the way home his tranny stoped pulling. he said if he shuts it of for 5 mins it will work again for about a mile. his clutch packs in the transfer case are goin out to. anyone know whats wrong, need tranny repaired or a selinoid went bad or is it the transfer case..

Ts 140hp 6pos chip, 100hp split shots, stealth 2 pump,h2e turbo, tranny, afe stage 2,

1996 2500 12v 2wd auto reg cab, flat bed, afc mods, sdx 140hp sticks, 4gsk, 60lbs springs, 191dv's, head studs, 16* timing, phat shaft 62/65/14 no plate, exhaust, intake, tanny, auto meter, adjustable overflow valve.

what dose the tranny oil look and smell like. if its black and smells burnt the tranny is probably done. but you could try changing the oil and filter and see what happens.

nope thats the first thing i did was check the fluid
