Problem I guess

I was driving home tonight and noticed my service engine soon light on. The truck sounded fine driving. I stopped at the Post Office and it sounded like it might be missing a little while idling. So I went home and checked codes. Only one present P1249 (Wastegate Fail Steady State Test). I know I get that one periodically and clear it without any issues. So I cleared the code and restarted the truck. The service engine soon light came back on and the truck sounded a little rough again. So I checked codes again. This time only one, P1316 ( Injector Circ/IDM Codes Detected). What do you think? Injector problem of some sort? The electrical connections seemed tight on both sides when I wiggled them. The truck has about 160,000 miles. Seems maybe a little early, but could be needing injectors I guess.

Check your electrical connections at the UVCH and the main harness first.

Thanks. I already checked the connections. If it will ever stop raining, I will get underneath with my infrared thermometer and see if I can figure out what is going on. Is there any other way to check injectors without a bench tester?

when my 95 started doing that, it felt and sounded like it was hitting on 4 or 5 cylinders.....it was my IDM that was toasted

The entire passenger side bank reads cooler than the driver's side. Does anyone know where the IDM is located? My service CD doesn't really tell me. I see a black box with a bunch of wires right underneath the air line from the filter box to the turbo. Is that the IDM? The connections seem good on it anyway.

The IDM is on the drivers side fender. I just replaced my dads it was fried also, his truck has about 160,000 on it. If you want you can send the IDM to Swamps diesel performance and they can test it before you replace it they can also fixx it and mod it.

No Fix

I finally got the new IDM today and switched it out. It still isn't right. IDM codes still on the computer and it sounds bad. What should I check next? I am really trying to avoid going to the dealer and having them hook it up to the computer, but I may have to. A buddy of mine has a garage, but his computer won't handle the advanced functions to access the IDM.

Are you POSITIVE the passenger's side UVCH is good and the connection to it from the main wiring harness is tight/clean? It seems fishy that, even with a funky IDM, an entire cylinder bank would be off...

Problem Fixed

I fixed the problem. By disconnecting the connectors on each valve cover I was able to confirm that the passenger side was the problem. I took off the valve cover and found that the connector was loose on the inside of the valve cover. It looked like there was maybe one injector firing. It all felt right from top, but the inside was off. As usual, it was about a 1/2 second fix with three hours to get to it and put it back.

Thanks for all your help.
