Hello 7.3 crowd...

Have begun digging a bit thru your threads looking for info on the 94-97ish trucks. Mainly trying to find the good, bad, and trouble areas of the different OBS trucks. Not as much the engine but the truck its self.

Things I have heard about are a benefit to swapping the front end, but dont know what, and rust on the bed sides. Are there common issues that arise with these trucks? Is there a "good" year to look for, or one to avoid?

My goal is to find a nice OBS Reg Cab LB to build on. Any help is appreciated.

TIA

Well as far as i know the trucks seem to be good for all the years. the 350's have the dana 60, where as the 250's have the Dana 50 TTB, which is what most people end up swapping out for a dana 60. If you are going out to find one, i would recomend just starting with a 350 strait cab, that way you won't have to worry about the TTB.

08 Ranger Grabber Orange. XLT 4x4 5 Speed Manual Super cab. Sirius. Silvana 9007 and 9415's. Amsoil 0w30 (Mileage Maximizer). Dee Zee Powder Coated Tool Box (PEELING). Dual 3' Fire Sticks. Cobra 75 X.
94 F-350 CC LB 5 -Speed. 4.10's. MBRP. Single Mass. 265/75's on 16x8's. Uniden CB. 3' Firestick.

There we go. Didnt know what the problem with the front end was but that makes sense.

Was/is there an issue with ball joints wearing quickly? Or is that the 98-03 SD's?

He already hit the big thing on axle swaps...

You already know about fender well rust...if you buy an automatic, the E4OD doesn't like abuse at ALL. Not sure how serious you're going, or if it's keeping a Power Stroke, but the PCM is way behind the SD's in capability.

Oh, and the aftermarket for accessories isn't worth a damn.

Not sure if it will keep the ps or get a 12v. Either way it will be stock and manual.

All of my 4wd obs trucks have the d50 traction beams and they never get stuck . The IFS keeps the rubber on the ground and doing its thing . The traction beams are easier on ball joints than the other axles . I have heard the 97 OBS trucks were better than the earlier ones . I have a 95 , 96 and 97 . They all have had the same problems which havent been many . I think you are going to be safe with any of them . I drive a 2006 Ram 2500 . It has all of the same options as my OBS trucks . I hate this Dodge that I am driving it is just not as HD as the obs trucks and gets stuck everywhere . I hate it so much that I am spending around 10k on my 96 to restore it so I can go back to driving it all of the time .

Anyone looking for a Dodge 5.9 ?
