trailer connector

I'm in need of a new 7 pin trailer connector. I went to the dealership, and they are asking just under $200 for it. I don't have a Napa nearby, and I won't buy the Asian made junk from Autozone.

Does anybody have a suggestion?

Thanks,

Woody

If not in hand or on the way:

Some RV dealers carry ends and high quality encased wiring. All 7 wires are available inside hard insulation to make any harness needed without using 7 individual wires. You should see examples of the hard full insulated type used on most fifth wheel RV's. Other sources for higher quality 7 wire supplies are horse trailer builders or dealers.

Tip: Eventually the weather boot fails on the O.E.M. bumper connector. It will cross circuit & cause odd electrical problems that just disappear. Until the next heavy rain or mud puddle allows enough water in to cause it again. Ghosts?...nope.

The other day I noticed that one of the wires going into the back of the connector has come loose. It is also green with corrosion. (obviously been bad for quite some time) I'm also thinking that there is a good possibility that this has been the cause of my electrical problems.

I've ordered one from etrailer.com, and it should arrive in another day or so. I'll report back and let yall know if this helps my ghosts.

If you need to replace the plug may want to look at the following solution for a 7 pin connector.

http://www.ezconnector.com/

It's a cool idea but my 5th Wheel has a 9 pin, the horse trailers have 7 pins and the other trailers have 6 or 4 pins. So I just run a 9 pin connector with adapters.

Update:

I ordered the part from etrailer.com, and the new harness showed up in the mail the other day. It only took me about 20 minutes to install it. Most of that time was spent getting back up off the ground to grab the next part or another tool. (I'm not 18 years old anymore.) The new parts are a perfect fit, and seem to be of excellent quality. I used a large glob of dielectric grease in each of the connections to help prevent future corrosion.

I took the old part back into the house with me, and put the DVM on each of the pins. One of the wires had a very high resistance, and the rest were okay. Oh, and the broken wire didn't get a reading. duh!! I'm not sure if this harness is/was contributing to the remainder of the electrical problems I've been having, but one can be optimistic.

I won't be hooking the camper up to the truck for about two months, so I won't be able to check things out until then.
