2000 vs 2001 Power Stroke

Yep new to this site and thanks in advance for any info one can provide. This question may already be posted but could not find it. Thanks again.

Ford changed the 7.3's HP ratings from the 2000 to 2001 model years.

2000 = 235HP
vs
2001 = 250HP Manual, 275HP for the auto trans.

What changes did Ford make to the engine to gain the extra HP?

I'm looking at a 2000 F350 right now that's for sale or should be looking for a 2001-2 for the extra HP?

You'll never notice 15 hp--go for the truck that's better priced/better condition.

Anyone,
Did Ford use the same computer for both model years?

Can one reprogram a 2000 to equal the same levels possible with 2001-2? In other words if one re-programed a 2000 and a 2001 with the same program would they produce equal or comparable HP / Torque ratings?

Again thanks in advance.

Go with the 2000 Espcially if its an Early 2000 and stay away from the PMR rods.

Not trying to be "difficult" with anyone but Diesel Power Magazine said that it was the 02 model that changed horespower ratings. And if I'm not mistaken all it was, was some changes to the computer. My suggestion about the trucks would be to forget about the horsepower changes (if your adding power additions anyway). I would be more worried about the condition differences of the trucks. Miles, dents, tires, # of owners, you know the usual, just trying to help please don't take it the wrong way.

On the hunt for a 7.3 preferably CC or Ext. Cab SB...Let me know of any deals.

Several web pages show the 2001 -2002 model years getting the bump in HP/Torque over the 1999 - 2001 so I'm just taking their word or it.

I figured there was a programing update but was also wondering about a mechanical change such as injectors, cam, etc. for the net increase of 40 HP for the auto transmission version.

Any one out there know why ford derated the manual trans?
250HP for manual vs 275HP for the auto trans in 2001 and 2002.

Isn't it 275/520 for the manual and 250/525 for the auto?

yes the auto was derated, I have an 02 and it was 250/525 on the sticker on my valve cover.

Honestly those numbers are based on programing nothing mechanicle is different unless you have a manual tranny then the obvous is the tranny is differnt.

dont worrry about the Horsepower and Torque numbers if the 2000 is in good condition get that one if it is an Early 2000. you will get the forged rods which is a huge bonus over the PMR rods that are in the 2001 truck.

Per CARFAX

Vehicle manufactured 8/14/2000.

What do you think - forged rods or PMR rods?

Thanks for your input.
