downpipe fitment

hello I was wondering if a stock down pipe from 99 7.3 would fit my 96 7.3? and also would I see any gains or should I just get a new down pipe? also what is the biggest that will fit on a 96? I know the bigger the better so I was just wondering,

It won't--the turbine outlet flange is a different size, IIRC, plus the firewall clearance on an OBS is way way way less than the '99-up trucks.

Have you seen the downpipe on your truck? A 3" pipe is a SQUEEEEEEZE in there. Gonna take a lot of beating to make it fit.

I ordered my 3" downpipe yesterday, I already had a 4" inch stack installed but when I put it on, Im going to eliminate the cat, so it will be a straight pipe right to the stack. my question is will there be any noticeable performance gain's and any increase in MPG?
