I have seen it a few times, more often it comes with a drive line breaking or a front end issue.

It can also happen if the housing is really hot and you run through cold water. It might also just be a poor casting which cracked after 14 years of heat cycles.

If it is a 5 speed and the dual mass flywheel gives up the ghost the vibration may cause the bell housing to crack. I had it happen on a 97 ps diesel

I have a 95 superduty with the disc brakes on the rear . So it has a parking brake on the back of the tranny . These parking brakes have their own fluid in them and people dont monitor the fluid level because it seems that it should be the same fluid thats in the tranny . The one on my 95 locked up and broke the bell housing before I bought it .

Huh??? I think you are mistaken... Your parking brakes are at the disks in back... I know, because if I use mine in the winter it freezes up...
