DIY intake and noise

So, I finally did the DIY intake with 6637 and a small length of 4" SS exh pipe on my 2000. I've read up on the things you guys did, but without cutting up the lower half of the battery/air box, the filter doesn't fit in that space very well. I didn't have time to cut anything because I was anxious to do my road trip through the Sierras. The hood squishes down on a small section of the 6637 closest to the fender. At least I know it's wedged in there and thank God the filter has that wire caging. The filter can't go further down under the hood because my air box has a "channel" that sticks up about an inch.

I also read about the louder noise after doing the install. My concern is I heard the louder noise as I accelerated. I sounds like a hiss that get's higher in pitch as I accelerated. A few times as I did this, that gradual louder growing hiss started to become intermittent. Kind of like a locomotive. I backed off the go pedal and it went away. Next time, I'll look at my boost guage to see if that is going crazy. Is this intermittent noise normal?

it's doing fine Joe. Your just not used to it because it's "wide" open now. I use the same filters on some of my heavy equipment, and they cost WAYYYY more then our trucks do. Your fine.

Dang it! This diesel stuff is addictive. I just wanted to get a bit of performance out of it. I don't want to drop $400. I keep telling myself, no more mods.

Crap. Going to work, I accelerated and got that intermittent sound again. It's most likely surge. I backed off and the sound went away. From what I've read, the ported compressor housing is the way to go. The WW isn't a 100% fix for turbo surge and it takes a lot more work to change out. I don't feel like doing that and end up buying the ported housing. Then I read about the combination of noise from the WW and the ported housing is really loud. I don't need all that noise and the $ and time put in to the swap.
