Swapping out LL8 for regular AD?

I've had a very mild and intermittent knock for the last few months and since I've addressed all the fuel system hardware issues I can think of (in-tank mods, AirDog, ITP reg. return system), I'm wondering if there's any way the LL injector I have in #8 cylinder (verified when I had the sticks out last fall for o-ring R/R) might be the cause of it and if so, would there be any harm in swapping to a regular AD injector? Since, IIRC, the LL part of that stick is hardware, I shouldn't need to send the chip back for re-programming, correct?

I believe you can simply swap out the injector without issue. I don't believe I have heard anybody tune for a single injector.

Cool--I thought that there was some mechanical component to a LL AD but wasn't sure if the PCM was set up differently in the '02+ rigs to run that particular sub-type of injector.

Well I got 'er dun today with a stock reman AD from Swamps and the hassle of R/R'ing just that one stick (not too bad, actually) was worth it. Before the swap my idle was smooth and now it's like buttah with none of the knock that was there before. I suppose the LL#8 was an OK "solution" to the cackle problem but with the hardware mods I did (in-tank, AirDog, Reg. Return system), the standard AD was just the ticket to finish off my fuel system and make things all happy-happy.

Congrats. Now, see Rosewood and put the FLOW into them ADs! (Building yer own injectors is fun AND rewarding.)

Nope--I have a PMR motor and like my block all in one piece. Sooner or later I'll find a CR 5.9 block/engine to do a build on and when I pull the 7.3, it'll go back in minus two cylinders and 1.4 liters of displacement.

(In my best Darth Vader voice)- I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Call me a quitter-to-be, but for what it would cost me to build a 7.3 (counting re-using my block) with forged rods to make 500 RWHP, I could have a Cummins putting out 700-800 so the hassle of sticking with a 7.3 for mo' powah' just isnt' worth it.
