Difference between cat back and turbo back exhaust

I have a '97 F-350 144,000 miles. I'm wondering what the pros and cons are of a cat back vs. Turbo back. I'm looking to add power and improved fuel economy, as well as lower EGT's for future chip installation. Thanks in advance.

i believe catback exhaust connect to your stock cat or come with the delete pipe and connect to your stock down pipe. turbo back exhaust come with a new larger better down pipe. both should lower your egts and add a little power. only cons i can see would be your truck will be louder, but could be solved with a good straight threw muffler, unless you dont mind it being louder.

on the OBS PSD (94.5 to 97) I'm willing to bet you arn't gonna even notice any improvement with a cat back exhaust, aside from a big shiny tip. the stock muffler on the truck is strait through, and hardly has any restriction. if you plan on running a chip, and you don't want to spend too much money, just get a new down pipe, and a cat delete pipe. the down pipe in these trucks is flat and very restrictive, and the cat is a giant screen that does nothing but plug. if you are going to get a turbo back, i would Avoid MBRP if you have a manual transmission.

Thanks for the info guys. When I checked the down pipe on my truck, I did notice that it looks like a smashed tin can. Why would it come like that from the factory?
