New to the 4r100

I'm about to purchase a 99' f450 with a "broken" transmission. I'm not too familiar with the 4r100, anybody have any ideas of what may have failed in the tranny? I'm going to be using this truck to pull a heavy (18k) trailer and I want to rebuild the tranny strong enough to handle it. Just wondering if it could be input/output shafts, or most likely clutch packs... Thanks for the help.

Send it to Brian at BTS and you will never have any more issues with it.

If you don't want to do that then do what I'm doing. An Auto to Manual swap.

IMO, my first guess on the 99's would most likely be the converter and/or the clutch packs. I guess it could've been one of the shafts but not knowing the mileage or how it was used before you bought it, it's hard to say..If you know you're going to be beating on it or towing alot of weight all the time, it will benifit you to upgrade all the internals before hand anyway.. Which I'm sure you were planning already..

I was lucky and caught mine this April before catastrophic failure. And it was the converter and packs, while they had it down we upgraded all the internals, bigger tranny cooler and torque converter..

Good luck and keep us updated....

Not enough info to make an educated guess. Therefore, count on the worst. Good luck & welcome!
