when i baught my truck it had a 4inch catback but over the axle was rotted so i cut and welded it made my own side pipe... big mistake. made my rear rim black and in the cab was alot louder... better off buying a turbo back performance exhaust

Ya ill try and get some pics here in a little bit, all i did was kept the stock, cut right in middle right about between the two doors then put four inch to 90 degree bend up through bed to single stack... Had that for about 3 months and decided i didnt like it so i turned the bend sideways and put a 5 inch tip on.

Are you talking about running a big pipe under the door and exiting just rear of the cab like the old hot rods? If so, I saw a truck many years ago that somebody had done that to. For me..looked odd..I didn't like the look. If I remember who did it I will try to see if they still have a picture of it.

I have run mine out the side before the rear tire for years now. As for the black rims. Its not to bad. I get almost the same back on the fronts from the brakes. 4cstr, those Lariat rims I sold you were not all black were they....

I did not bend any pipes. Went to a local Auto parts store.
Not many carry 4 plus inch pipe so call around. I Bought a
10 foot stick of 4" pipe. Way to much, but smallest I could
buy from them. Bought a 4" down pipe and from there bolted
on a straight pipe about 3 feet long. The down pipe is
flanged to fit the pipe. At the end of the straight pipe I
used a coupler/flange to connect the next piece. A 60-degree
turn that has a flange on one end. With the flange at the
end of my project I could now finish it off with a 18"
piece of pipe out the side before the rear tire. It is all
adjustable depending on how you turn the pipes for endless
exit points. After I set my exit, I removed the last piece
and cut it to match the curve of the truck (slash
cut) everything was clamped with (6) SS band clamps. You will
need at least one hanging point. I have two.

I later added N-Fab bars that go from fender opening to
fender opening, so I had to exit below the bars. I added a
45 degree to the 60 degree and with that combo I could move
the pipes to exit up, down, side ways....countless ways,
very cool.

I have had it out the side like this for about 85,000 miles.
Windows up=sounds almost stock. Windows down=BAD ***
sound!!

I was at a clients shop that races NASCAR Craftsman trucks
the other day and REALLY like the side exit they use. Out
the truck bed body just in front of the rear tire. Might
give that a try because of the bars I added.

$125 Down Pipe
$50 10'of 4" pipe
$30 (6)SS band clamps
$25 60 degree turn
$12 flange adapter

$242 total

Could be less if you only count what you use out of the 10'
piece(4.5') for a total of $214.00. I think you could find
the 60/45/90 degree turn and flange adapter cheaper on line
too!

Hope this helps

My ex-stepdad has a buddy in Iowa that put true side pipes on his 99 right after he bought it new. They ran all the way along the bottom of the doors and turned out right at the back of the cab.

It really looked good but I am not sure if he even has it that way anymore as I have not seen him in years.

Bella...no the rims weren't black.

To the OP...I think there is some confusion. Are you talking about an exhaust that runs under the truck and then exits in front of the rears...or true side pipes that run down the outside of the vehicle. Something similar to the picture below.
