Tranny done?

So the truck stopped moving foward all together. Thought there may have been a slight hesitation once or twice when going into drive. Now it wont move at all, thinking the tranny is done. Still backs up but...You guys agree its gone or is there a chance the programing could have screwd itself up?Unlikely, huh. Wonndering if its worth getting scanned or just go ahead and pull it to have it rebuilt? 168000 miles, I guess it was meant to be. Cant come up with anything else it could be. Sorry so long. not much else to do since I cant go cruising.lol. Thoughts? Any chance its a torque convertor issue? It still will back up so cant be right? Cooler shold be rplaced also correct?

Does your fluid smell burnt ? Does it look brown instead of red ? If its the TC the trans is probably toast too. I didn't replace my cooler when my trans crapped on me . I flushed the lines out and blew them out with air , not to much air pressure it will trash the cooler .

Its not bright red by any means but it doesnt really smell burnt though... If the torque conveter let go would I still have reverse? howd you flush them out? unhook them and light air with some fresh fluid? If I take it out can/will a tranny shop know if the tc is junk without it being inthe truck? Sorry all the questions but the internal workings stump me a little.

When the converter quits, you will have nothing. The tranny has some internal problems. Forward drum could be the problem. You should have it rebuilt with 168k miles.

One little small one I always forget is to mark your driveshaft and the yoke you bolt it too. Probably not a big deal if you don't but I have seen some driveshafts with quite a bit of weight hanging on them. Something else is make sure you have a buddy that know how to turn a wrench or atleast able to hold some weight for a few minutes, and some beer. A tranny jack is always a better and safer way to go than just an ol floor jack, even though it can be done with one, the tranny just doesn't like to sit on one all the time. Good Luck.

On the hunt for a 7.3 preferably CC or Ext. Cab SB...Let me know of any deals.

Thanks for the tip. The indexing I did figure on. But I got it goinginto a shop, $300 difference wasnt worth me pulling it. Gonna be done in a less then a week, and the mechanic didnt care if I had a chip or tow with it. Unlimited milage for a year and everyonearound hear been bragin him up so.....Thanks for the quick responses though, this place is awsome. Andnow I can drink all the beer I want and not have to remember if I got everything right!!
