oil pressure

i have a 2000 f-250 and after warming up awhile my oil pressure goes crazy. at idle it drops to nothing and the light comes on but as soon as i get around 800 rpm or more it jumps to normal. i changed the oil pump on the bottom front of motor and that did not fix the problem. anybody have any ideas i am at my wits end

Is your oil viscosity down from fuel dilution? Is your oil filter plugged?

just did an oil change and still no change. oil looked good. am thinking it may be a pick up tube. any suggestions on the best way to drop the oil pan or does the motor have to come out.

Maybe your sensor is giving a bad reading. I mean, if you had such low oil pressure, the engine would stop running and there would be no oil to the injectors. Try a mechanical gauge and see what that says. If it were the pick-up tube, it doesn't seem like oil pressure would be any better revving the engine up. You can try to overfill your oil level to cover whatever crack might be in the pick-up to see if that does anything.

you probably need a sensor
the trick you by putting in a gauge but its actually a switch, either its at half or low.

I asked him that in the 911 section. he did install a mech gauge and got 4 psi at idle so yes it is actually low, and it did make good pressure at higher rpms. i suggested having a look at the oil pressure relfe valve

I think there is a regulating valve and a bypass valve in the filter header.
