TPS issues?

Never had to deal with the TPS so I am wondering what some of the symptoms are when they are going out.

I have been having problems as of late with the throtle being very touchy when going over normal slightly bumpy roads. This is not normal for my truck and it only happens on occasion. The RPMs at idle will run up to about 900 and the engine sounds like I have a lope tune going if I am in gear and driving. I can get it to stop on occasion by reving the engine. If not, I can kill the engine and let it sit for a minute the problem goes away. The truck will run flawlessly all day then BAM! Here we go again...
Been fighting it for about two weeks.
The chip is taped in really well and the contacts are clean.

A bad TPS usually results in a dead pedal, not a touchy one.

When my TPS was going out, it would intermittently go dead while going down the road. At first I thought it was the cam position sensor, but the tach would not go crazy.

1996 Int 4700, 175hp DT466, 5 speed, 2x rear end, service body

if you have a multimeter and are interestd in testing the TPS ill post up some specs for it..

Early 99 7.3 BTS tunes and trans

specs..if anyone finds it helpful..


Accelerator Released = 0.6v
Wide Open = 3.8

Voltages are approximate




based on 1999 truck..may differ in newer trucks..not sure about that one
