burning oil= rough running

well my fathers 2002 F250 died today, he said that it started studering and then died. we had it towed to a local AAA garage. the mechanic said that the injectors on the powerstrokes work on oil pressure. they checked the oil and it was very low. they added 5 quarts and started it up. It ran fine. The mechanic drove it out front, I noticed it was pushing bluish white smoke out the exhaust. when he got it out front it was still running good, then it started studering again. he shut it off and checked the oil and it was a little lower. This garage doesn't have the tools to work on diesels so they said that we had to take it to a ford garage. I went to go park it and it barely ran. now for my question. could it be possible that a seal in the turbo let go causing it to burn the oil, and hence dropping oil pressure going to injectors causing it to run rough and dieing?? if not any suggestions on what else it could be other than turbo and or rings??

Garage
if it use that much oil I would say injectors o-ring. there about $100 for all 8 o-rings I think
never run the engine with low oil like that all the injectors run off the oil

Supposedly they will stop working and the engine will die, before it's low enough to damage anything... is there oil in the exhaust? (Does he have a muffler, or is it open exhaust? I would pull the Down pipe clamp off, it there is a ton of oil there, the turbo is shot.... if the down pipe is dry,, then it's likely the injector "O" rings. But if the truck "Ran fine" when it was full of oil, I would doubt that myself.....
