project truck found.

I found a good one. 96 4x4 5 speed 4 10 gears. I got a few wireing issues to fix. and steering box to put in. truck already has south bend triple disc. input shaft 5th gear fix. (bonus) oh yeah and gear vendors. so once i fix the saftey stuff im thinking heavy hauler/// play toy.. first thoughts confirm kdp. head studs port polish fire ring.5 x12---5x16 set of heavy tow twins... bd/ ats both have nice sets. i like the twin ram on my 97 so prob another twin ram. good intercooler. good three piece exhaust and 4 or 5" turbo back. just first thoughts. motor has 200k on it when i open it i will check the inside if it needs it it will be refreshed. I dont really care about the hp numbers I do care that it tows like a pair of tanks tied together. and i figure ill want to play now and then. egts is allways my first thought i like them to be well under control. I will post pictures soon. I welcome any thoughts ideas suggestions on parts.... head . injectors turbos. well let me have it what yall think

I would fix the KDP, then pull the head off and get studs and oring the head. Also get it ported and polished while its off.

You may want to run a 62/71/12 over a 475 or 480. 4K gsk and a good set of injectors. Also a Fass or Air Dog

BTW I have a set of 5X16 that I am running now, they run clean. I am stepping down a size. These 5X16 will be for sale shortly. PM me if you are interested and I will let them go fairly cheap.

im still undecided about o-ring vs fire ring. what little i have learned if you are gonna run more than 60 psi go fire ring. well there is a hump in the road. out of the sets of heavy tow twins i have found on the market so far they run 70-80 psi. i know that is not all the time but still. where do yall fall on the whole oring/fire ring debate.

the kdp i was told it was fixed i just feel better if i look myself.

I always heard on a DD/Tow Rig you wanted to O-ring ( Valves) and not Fire-Ring ( Cylinders) because Firerings can leak a bit. Call a good machine shop like Haisley and ask them.

thats a good point i will ask cedar city who they use as a machine shop and get the opinion of both. I want to make sure i build it right the first time. I am a little concerned about the boost and longevity.

ok talked to tuner and the machine shop. they both say with the new radius cut groves that fire rings are the way to go. they got rid of the problems that fire rings had. so at this point check the head port polish fire ring etc. 5x16's I am really leaning to the bd towing twins. tuner will allow me to load the trailer and tune to keep egt's under control. .... ok question cams. from what i have found so far cams with ranges to 4k can really wake up a 12v help lower egts .. insert opionions here... now cast, cast billet, new , regrinds ....insert more opinions... and finally supporting vendors with 12v cams.

Call and talk to Hamilton Cams. Tell them what want to do to the truck and what you want it to do and see what they can do for you in lines of a cam shaft.
