ts chip and turbo

i have an early 99 powerstroke i just put a 6 position ts chip in. I have a couple of friends that have the same chip and have had to replace their turbos. Has anyone else had this problem and what causes this problem is it running too hot or what?? Is there any way to avoid this problem Thanks

Overspeeding the turbo is a good way to kill it. Leave the wastegate operational and you shouldn't have any problems.

Your not giving enough info... Do they have gauges? How many miles? What boost levels were they running?

Any chip or programer is going to run the risk of breaking something. I have never had a turbo die on me in any of my PSD's with over 260,000 on two of them.
