7.3 ps motor is missing

I have a 2000 7.3 ps and when i am driving it sometimes coughs real hard and the check engine light comes on ,other times at slow speed it will just quit,, i have tried to read the code but i have a chip and the computer won't read it , does anyone know what might be the problem, it never did this until i installed 4 inch exhaust... thanx wv hillbilly

Where did you have the codes read?

The chip will not cause any problems reading codes. You have to have a code reader that will read Powerstroke Diesel codes, not all OBD II code readers can.

thanx,, I went to Advanced Auto and used the one they had, should have known all that stuff is junk.......
