2002 7.3 Excursion Chip/Programer question

I am new to the Forum and the whole Diesel thing. Picked up a 2002 7.3 Excursion and put a 4" turbo back Magnaflow exhaust and an S&B intake on it. Was getting about 18-19 MPG on the highway, purchased a Bully Dog power Pup downloader and on 70 hp I am getting 14 mpg if I'm Lucky. Now that is all intown driving( Just put it in). Any way, so far I have been very dissatisfied with the Bully Dog stuff and want to get the best MPG I can with the vehicle and whatever HP/TQ increases that come with it is great. But I do like to bump the the High hp tunes to have some fun to. What chip/Tune/Downloader should I go with?? Oh, I also have piller mount EGT-boost, and tranny temp guages.

Thanks for helping out the new guy.

Everyone on here is going to suggest DP Tuner. You can get tunes ranging from 40 hp all the way to 140 hp. They have economy settings and performance setting so you can tune it to whatever fits your needs. I am wanting to purchase one also and get rid of the stuff I have because my Banks stuff just doesn't do what it is suppose to do. You have a good foundation already started with the exhaust and gauges. Go to www.dptuner.com and check out their products. Good Luck!

2002 F-250 Crew Cab 4x4, DP-Tuner 60 tow, 80 eco, 120 race, and 140 smoke, Banks wastegate, Banks Transcommand(bypassed), 4" SS exhaust, AFE stage 2 intake, Superlift 6" lift, 37" Nitto Terra Grapplers, 18" Motto wheels, EGT and Boost gauges.

How are you measuring MPG? If you are going by the overhead console, tunes will throw them off quite a bit. Hand calculations are the best way to get the correct reading. As said above, give DP a call and see what they say is best for you and your EX. My EX runs so good on their tunes. I am sure yours will as well.
And welcome to the Garage!!!!:mafia

Thanks. I don't have the overhead console, I do it all by calculating it. I want to get a good baseline with the exhaust, Intake and tune set up then build from there. Maybe injectors, new turbo (twins would be cool), I hear a lift pump coould be necessary with the highre fuel demands, but the big thing is get the best fuel mileage with the highest hp/tq gain I can get. Other than the tune the rest will be something here something there stage tuning as the funds become available to add more. I will tell you what tho, I love driving my diesel, I can't believe I have never owned one before! Oh, I was on a trip to Florida in June and during fuel stops I would talk to the people fueling up about their rides and on Guy said he was getting 26 MPG in his F350 7.3 with a chip from Swamp Diesel, and another guy was getting 23 MPG with his F250 with a Superchip. Anyway seems to be lots out there just want the skinny on what really works.

Mileage I'm not sure the overhead gauge says 14.1 but I know it's better then that..I have a 7 1/2" suspension lift with 37" swamper ssr's, a custom cold air intake,4" magnaflow exhaust and a DP tuner. Thats all the performance mod's I have right now.

You can't go wrong with DP tuner, or Elite Diesel... Both Jody and Tadd can flat tune these trucks!

Wife is running Elite Diesel tunes and soon Elite Diesel Injectors in her X...
