Question Superchips Max Micro Tuner 1705

I have a 1997 Ford F-250 7.3 Auto trans with a Banks Monster Exhaust (flat down pipe gone)and K&N cold air intake with a Superchips Max Micro Tuner 1705. The Rep from Banks suggested not to go with the Performance mode with the Super chip because of EGT's and possible Trans failure. The truck does have 108,000 miles on it. The rep also said the tranny's are only good for 140-160,000 miles and stepping up to 80 more Hp it wouldn't hold up. He said stick with the 40-50 hp settings. What are your thought on this?

Also I had my brother drive the truck while I watched and noticed some dark smoke from the exhaust. Does this give an indication where my EGT's are at? The Tuner is now set in the Performance tow mode 50hp 85 ft/lbs torque. I have no gauges

listen to the Banks rep. you will be okay with the 80 but might want to upgrade tranny with banks trans command and a pyro. BLACK SMOKE this is unburned fuel and the more you give the more you will have. temps on 40 setting you will not need to worry about

Does that mean I'm waisting fuel and getting worse fuel mileage? And What can I do to correct it? Will bumping up the Superchip help with the smoke and fuel mileage?

i would sell it on ebay and get a DP Tuner or Wildman Chip.

I never had the Superchips tuner but have heard of people switching from them and they would never go back.

The Superchip seems to be doing fine. I've been toying around with it switching between the three different settings to see how they compare. Right now I have it in the Performance Tow mode which is a 50 hp bump from stock. I like the Performance Tune mode the best which is an 80 hp/115 ft/lbs of torque bump up but from what I've heard the Transmission won't hold up in stock form; so I went back to the Performance Tow mode. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a trans fix.

Is dark smoke from the exhaust any indication of how the truck is performing or tuned?
