lost 4 mpg with DP Tuner 80 Econo

I've got a F5 chip with no start, stock, 40 tow, 60 tow, 80 tow, 80 econo, 120 race, 140 extreme, 140 SMOKE. I've ran 2 tanks so far since the chip install. Each tank i'm down 4 mpgs on the 80 econo and normal everyday driving. Also it seems to have more turbo lag. Say going 45 mph in 6th gear and floor it. It takes like 5 secs to build up to 55 mph. Then once it hits 55 the truck takes off like a rocket. If i have to pass or just build up speed on a hill going 45 i have to down shift. It does that in every setting EXCEPT stock. In the stock setting it has almost no lag it just goes. Also when taking off hard and shifting gears the motor stays revved up between gear shifts. Makes shifting kinda weird. Also, when going say 70 on the interstate and floor it to pass someone then let off the motor stays revved. Then it drops like a second after i let off. Is all of this normal? Think something is wrong with the programming of the chip?

They won't be back online or in the office until Monday, but I would give them a ring and send Diane (SeeYa) a PM now for certain.

They'll help you figure out the problem.

well I'll tell you that your lag problem is probably that stock exhaust!

I have a buddy that did the same thing. Got the chip before the exhaust and he noticed the same thing!

But the rest of the stuff might be something that Jody accidentaly missed in his programing. I have one little minor thing also where when I come to a stop in the 60 tow setting the idle stays up at about 850 RPM. And it only does it when it is warm but I dont really care. It doesnt bother me.

The 80E tune is made to be easy at low RPM's. That is why it is the Economy tune. If you want more aggressive bottom end, get a Tow tune. I think this was mentioned on the other forum as well.

my truck had serious lag as well until i got an exhaust, some people wouldn't think that an exhaust would do that much, but it really helps with spool up

Talked to Jody today. He's gonna do some changes and send me another chip out tomorrow.

There's reasons that i went with DP. That is one of them.

my truck was doing the same thing after i installed my DP chip. when i was ordering, the other guy (not jody...can't remember his name) told me the tow and econo settings are the same except for tranny programming, meaning for anyone with the 6spd they're the same tune.

I have 80 econo (aka 80), and for a while sometimes it would be sluggish as ****, just like you described....the going 45 and taking 10 seconds to hit 55 but then building boost and taking off is EXACTLY what mine was doing. i found out the problem was i had a bad connection at the switch and cable. RIGHT at initial key-on, my switch...instead of doing the little spinny thing and then showing #4 (my position for 80e), the decimal point would keep blinking. if the decimal point was blinking while i started my truck, it would drag *** like you describe. if i jiggled the interface and got a 4 to show up BEFORE starting, it ran/runs like a raped ape. if i started the engine with the decimal blinking and afterwards jiggled the switch to get the program number to show, i would have key off and back on and start the engine to get the power back.

i had to take the switch/cable apart and bend the switch pins in towards each other just a little, and all my problems went away. if you search my username, in my mandatory "all hail the badasness of DPtuner" thread you'll see i love(d) the tunes but i thought the switch and cable ends of the plug were junk and need some kind of latching mechanism. i wrote that post while having issues with the connection. since bending the pins the problems have gone away, but i still dont think i should be having to bend anything around in the first place after what I paid for the product. anyway, that's another discussion

just something to check for. when you key on make sure it very quickly goes to the program number. mine screwed up like 50% of the key on cycles before i bent the pins in.

good luck

edit: wow, i forgot how touchy-feely this forum was about "bad words"...
