ts performance overboost

I just installed a ts performance 6 pos chip on my 01 powerstroke and am not all that pleased. When I first installed and took down the road I noticed that when pulling hard such as a hill it pulled strong then the engine stopped reving like hitting a govenor and didn't make anymore power. After reading other threads I determined it was overboost. I had an air regulator so I spliced it in front of the map sensor to eliminate the problem. This worked but the truck does not seem to have picked up much power now. Could this be limiting the fuel the chip gives by the computer not reading full boost and not allowing full throttle? The 140 horse tune has no power over the 100 horse tune and the 100 is not much stronger than the 50 or 75. Could I have been expecting too much?

There are any number of reasons the 140 tune doesn't pull any stronger.

The #1 reason you will likely find is that the injectors can't push any more fuel out than what the 100 tune calls for. It's not the injectors fault, either. It's the HEUI system driven by a High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP) that likely won't do what the tune asks of it.

At what pressure did you set the regulator?

around 20 psi. i set with a compressor to 22 psi thinking 24 or 25 was the limit but that didn't work and i had to make small adjustments driving the truck till the problem stopped.

i also noticed that before i put the regulator on it would smoke quite a bit when i started pulling the gear and all of a sudden take off. i assumed that when i fixed my overboost problem the truck would just continue pulling but now with the regulator i get barely any smoke at all and i doesn't seem to have that launch. its still more powerful than stock but not much.

t s chip

That is because ts performance chips with their generic tunes , suck...

I have had many different tuners, and none of them have been as poorly designed tunes as the ts-chip

Do your self a favor and send your TS chip to Matt at Gearhead and get it reburned with some of his tunes. You wont have an over boost anymore and his tunes are some of the best I have ever ran on my truck
