Pdr Hx40

How do yall feel about this turbo? I know the shafts on these are known to break, but are they really that bad? I can get one for 500 bucks, it has 10k on it though. What do yall think...Ya or Na?

I don't have tons of money to spend on a nice turbo from HTT or II so this is why I'm considering it. Also my HY with 149k on it isn't gonna cut it much longer....... Thanks for the help!

Edit: It has an 16cm WG housing.

If it is stock, I'd save up more money. A bonestock HX40 is more laggy, and won't have the improved oiling for the bearings.

Now, if it is something like a PDR 40, jump on it. Just make sure to check the shaft play if you get it. I bought a used HTT 64/14. Supposedly a good turbo, and having 10k miles on it, too. It had been over boosted, and there was compressor wheel to housing contact. Had to send it to HTT for a rebuild. Went to install it today, but it still had the wrong compressor cover, and had to put the 40 back on. All said and done, I should've bought a brand new one. Ending up costing me almost just as much as a new one.

I haven't exactly been easy on my turbo, and it still feels like a new one. Even after 60k+ miles.

For $500 you won't get hurt on a PDR 40 and it will be a huge difference over your HY. Just remember you are going to feel a lot more lag compared to what you are used to out of that little housing.

Yeah it's a PDR 40. I'm still debating though, but I do need a turbo BADDD!

Thats a good little turbo. We ran one on an 01 with an Edge drag comp, mach 4's and a HRVP44. Spool up wasn't bad, pushed 50psi boost no problem, and got the truck into the low 13's 13.03 to be exact. It did get really hot when racing upwards of 1800 degrees, probably closer to 2000*. But it was still very managable on the street. I would say if you can check it for end run, if there is minor movement side to side, thats ok, back and forth shaft movement is a bad thing though. The Pdr Hx40's (Hot rod 40) has upgraded shafts.

So you think the impeller and all looks good? The guy that had it on his truck before said it was a stock 40 that he sent of to PDR to have them modify it. I'm really interested in getting this thing.

Anybody else got any input on how it looks in the pics?

Well those pictures aren't the greatest, and its hard to tell from pictures anyways. If you trust the guy I say jump on it. I have seen these turbos take quite a bit of abuse and have more miles on them and still no end play in the shaft. Sounds like a really good deal to me. Actually, like Racinduallie said over there, its still a good deal even if you have to ship it out to be freshened up. If you don't have to send it out, all the better, and it sounds like you wont have to. If you don't buy it I know a couple guys that would probably jump on that thing.
