Edge's responce on a H.O./ETH question:

ME:
My truck is a 2002 High Output Engine (245hp). (6speed)
They are slighty different then the regular Cummins.
They respond to eletronics less than regular Cummins.
Edge advertises a 7-8% gain in fuel economy
and 35HP increase.
Is it safe to say I will see around a 4-5% gain in fuel economy.
and around a 10-15HP increase. Even so I'll still be buying the chip.
I just wondered your guys view on these engines.

Edge:
Sorry for the inconvenience, I have been out of the office. The Mileage and the power on the Mileage Max are going to be the same for both trucks. You will see 7% depending on driving habits. You will start to see differences between the High Output and the regular when you get past the 65 horsepower mark. Just let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks

I found this interesting. I was under assumption that mods on the HO/ETH were just about half as effective as mods on the SO/ETC engine. I didn't know they just increased at the same rate until the 65hp mark.

Does this catch anyone else offguard or just me?

So basically if you getting about 17-18 MPG and get 7%-8% gain thant would be about 1.19-1.44 MPG gain... Not much be in the long haul it wortth it...

but at the same time when you gain the extra power you like to stick your foot into it more so the gains usually are not as good as they are stated being

01 quad cab 4x4, edge drag comp, 4" exhaust, fass 150, 250 ddps, Jefferson State compounds 683hp so vp 11.91. AMSOIL front to rear. now back to stock 95 fummins in the works

Ya but......This is a timing only. Typically with most boxes offered for the VP44 trucks, they do both timing and fuel. So your gains are offset by the increase in fuel. Not so with this, it should just be timing only, and no fuel.

Still not out of the question really. But I would only use the smarty for fuel saver mode. I don't need all the power it makes. I'm hauling campers. . The Smarty is diffently the best Programmer for the VP44 trucks. I just don't know if I want to spend 700 bucks on a programmer when I get away with 280 bucks on a box that will do the same as what I want the programmer for. I'm still not ruling out a Smarty though...............

there seem to always be some deals on edge ez modules out there that could help too and be pretty cheap

The Edge EZ still does Fuel. I'm not looking for anymore fueling really. Not unless I decide on twin turbos.

.....................Which would make up for the lack of Diesel clatter in the ETH engines.......:
