Looking at CRs..want helpful info on upgrades

ok, i posted this on the regular CR forum, and didnt really get alot of responses. I didnt look down the page further till now and saw the performance section

Looking at getting another dodge. 05-07 with the 5.9 and a 6spd. crew cab dually 4x4. Im buying it to pull campers (somehow people are still buying them) so towing heavier loads will be the major factor in all this...

question is....what are some good solid mods I can do for say under 1k..First obviously are gauges, intake and exhaust. I know what gauges and exhaust i want. Not sure about the intake part. Ive been reading alot through the forum and everyone seems to like it so i plan on running the smarty. other things i plan on getting are

DD clutch
FASS 150gph
DIY CP3 kit

ANY info is helpful. I did alot of research before buying things for my stroker and the results (as the dyno numbers show) are pretty good I think.'

Thanks everyone

Well you got an awesome start with your first mods. This would be my order.

1. Gauges
2. Exhaust
3. Intake
4. Bully dog, Edge, or Smarty
5. Then save a little cash for a clutch but if you drive it with care you will be ok for a bit.
6. Fuel System
7. Then the list could go on and on......

This should give you a good start. Hope this helps

I run an 05' SRW 6spd. pulling a 33' fith wheel(8800 lbs.) I run a Quadzilla M3 Banks intake and a Volant cold air intake. Working on the exhaust yet. Pulled from Pa to Fla. no problems. EGT's stayed low even through the mountains in PA and VA. Fuel economy was pretty good also with all things considered. I think if I do it again I will go with the Smarty though.

You will be just fine on the manual. I pushed 400 horse on my 01 and never had a problem, and there are people that pushed way more than that. Just do the cluth and you'll be fine.

when your ready for the clutch call southbend and tell them what you have done to your truck and what you plan on doing with it and they will set you up with the right clutch. I don't think you will need a dd but could be wrong.

I turned 21
I would go just like sootbandit said, pretty much word for word. You could run the Smarty on level one or two and be fine with it. The tranny will be fine, I recently found out the NV4500 is rated for 430 ft/lbs of torque, and I know the NV5600 and G56 are both higher but I don't remember what. A heavier duty single disk clutch will do fine, look at what I'm forcing through mine. I towed a 75 Chevy 3/4 ton on a trailer over the continental divide with it anyway. And it will be more street friendly than a dual disk unless you plan on doing more than you listed.

well, i dont "plan" on doing more till i find something thats "a good deal".

Id rather spend the extra little cash for a clutch that'll take whatever id throw at it as opposed to paying for a smaller one then having to buy a bigger one. A DD cant have much more clutch pressure then the semis ive driven.
