he'd be happy with PPE, predator, or quadzilla if he wants a tuner. If he wanted a harness box, he could use an Edge or VA.

I wouldnt recommend EFI live for every application. Granted, its a great tool, but its very time-intensive to write you own tunes.

I used to have an Edge EZ (harness box - 3 power levels) and generally kept it at the lowest level. It did help a lot with towing. This spring I sold the Edge EZ and purchased EFILive because I wanted to learn all I could about tuning my truck. I am very pleased with EFILive. I have a very nice tune I created that provides about 40 more HP and about 100 extra ft/lbs torque (numbers are approximate - they are from a baseline tune that provided such numbers.) Towing with EFILive is great now, however there was a stepp learning curve. I brought the laptop on our last trip (3200 miles) and tweaked the tune about a dozen times. I also tried Killerbee's 100 HP tune (it was very nice, very smooth but too much power for my liking - or tranny.) I did not tow with that one, but I did have fun flying up hills in Prince Edward Island like I was in a sports car. I did not limp the tranny, but probably would have if I kept that tune active

the one thing I can say about EFILive, you never feel like you didn't get your moneys worth.

Plus there are a number of safe free tunes to get started with.

the best for the buck is the Diablo but the best off the shelf tuner is the PPE and the best of the best is the EFI Live but it takes time to learn and tell him if he wants to save his tranny for a long time not to go over 90hp..
