Gauge problem

Ok got another question to ask of y'all. On my 93, the tach reads 0 when at idle and seems to be about 500 rpm's off while driving around. Does the tach cable run like an old speedo cable where it has the friction pieces inside or is there a way to fix this without replacing the whole gauge?

Sounds like the tach sensor, sits right beside the oil filler cap, might try removing and cleaning, but probably needs replaced.

Just saw you reply and I'm getting under the hood right now to check some glow plugs also. Thank you for the help. I'll see what it all looks like in a few. Thank you.

I cleaned the sensor just for kicks and the little *sum beach* Is now reading 400 RPM's at idle and seems to stay about 2-300 RPM's slow. So it's a little bit better then it was. Guess I'll be getting a new sensor soon.
